Enoch is a Siberian Husky that is approximately 2 years old. He was found on December 13th xxxx when he darted out in front of a moving car. Luckily he was not hit. Since he had no identification he was taken to the animal shelter to give his owners a chance to claim him. Enoch was very affectionate and gentle with the woman that found him, but in the shelter, he was terrified. He had been beaten on his head and body, had birdshot in his face, ears and neck. He was afraid to be touched and was prepared to defend himself. Enoch had been physically abused and was very afraid to be handled by people. He was very afraid to go into a crate and did not want to be touched. He was sent to a professional trainer for rehabilitation and made amazing progress in a very short time. He is currently fostered by the dog trainer and is very affectionate and loving with his foster family. In a new situation, he will need to be given space for a couple of days while acclimating to his new surroundings and observing new people. Even though he has learned to be gentle with the children in his foster home, it is not recommended Enoch live in a home with children that are too young to understand how to be gentle and calm with dogs. Enoch gives very clear signs when he's uncomfortable, but an unexpected hug or sudden kiss would likely startle him. He will need continued ongoing training to desensitize him to being handled and to help him make positive associations with being touched by people.
Enoch is potty trained and loves to play with other dogs. He is very vocal and can be quite chatty when he's excited. He tolerates grooming pretty well but still has some sensitive spots, due to his injuries. Enoch rides well in the car and willingly leaps in to go for a ride. He loves the outdoors and loves to run. He currently has very strong opinions against getting into a crate, but is continuing to make good progress with crate training.
Enoch needs a loving home that can teach him that some people aren't so bad. He needs clear and consistently enforced boundaries yet needs to be handled very gently.
